No, Poseidon. For some reason, the names swirl in his head, jumbled. He jolts out of his thoughts to Clarisse’s sigh of annoyance.
“What is it with all the hero-worship around here?” She mutters under her breath, and then huffs. “At least it wouldn’t go to his head.” She clears her throat, voice finally rising above a whisper. “Control-the-sea powerful. At the tender age of eight, Rhaenys remembered King Robert Baratheon issuing a strict decree to Lord Eddard Stark: the child was to sever all ties with her paternal house. Stripped of her title as princess and forced to publicly disavow her surviving kin, she took her mother’s name, becoming Lady Rhaenys Martell as a sign of loyalty to the new crown.
Years later, when her husband was proclaimed King in the North, she reclaimed the identity that had been stolen from her and became their queen. The disavowal of her kin, once forced upon her in childhood, was now a conscious choice. Thus, when the Northern lords suggested appealing to Aemon, the son of the late Lyanna Stark, and his dragons, Rhaenys crushed the notion instantly. She proclaimed they were no family of hers, rejecting them once again.
Yet now, broken and bleeding, the tides had turned. With her husband near death, their host decimated, and their royalty reduced to a hollow title, Rhaenys was forced to swallow her pride.
