Summary
In December 1962, a dark wizard in the early stages of his quest for immortality, heard tell of the ‘Deathly Hallows’. His search for these items led him to the estate of the Potter Family, the last living descendants of the Peverelle brothers.
He did not find the Hallows. What he did find was a two-year-old boy in the care of an elderly house elf.
What he did to that boy changed the course of his life forever.
The use of the cruciatus curse on children under five can have very curious effects.

The Wizarding World knew they existed, unlike the Muggle World, but had never been able to imprison one. The closest wizards had ever gotten was finding washed-up mermaid scales on beach shores. The scales were worth a fortune. Being the most wealthy, active, and driven pirate ship in the world, Regulus, Evan, and Barty knew they had to do it.

Regulus has been here for an hour, watching people come and go. Watching them get called and taken away, or seeing people breathe sighs of relief at good news.

How the hell are you supposed to fight the hanahaki disease when you aren't even sure who you're in love with? Not all emotions are easy to define, and James Potter struggles with the threat of life or death looming over his shoulders and swelling up in his lungs.

Before anyone could react further, three sigils tore free from the page like molten brands. It floated in the air before James, Lily, and Regulus. The light engulfed them, wrapping around their figures in blinding arcs.
“Don’t move!” Lily shouted, even as her outline blurred in the glow.
Regulus tried to wrench himself free, but the magic caught him fast, pulling him upright. His glare shot toward James through the searing light. “This is your fault—”
And then the glow swallowed them whole.

Summary
James Potter hadn’t expected this. Maybe he should have.
The last thing he remembered was dying. Fine, that was okay—mostly. He wasn’t going to live forever. But while he was waiting for the afterlife—if there even was one—his mind suddenly began to flood with the fragmented memories of his son. Alright, no problem; he’d heard a few legends about the dead being able to watch over the lives of their loved ones.
But then, he suddenly opened his eyes to find himself at home. In his eleven-year-old body. Okay, he was certain this wasn’t the afterlife.
And why was Snivellus looking at him like that? If James’s memories weren’t betraying him, his first meeting with that boy hadn't gone down quite like this.
Whatever this strange, second-chance hell was, James Potter was certain of one thing: he definitely hadn’t signed up for it.

Summary
If it wasn't for James, he'd actually find this entire experience quite entertaining, and quite a fitting punishment to his parents. So what if the outcome eventually led to his death? It wasn't as if he was actually living anything resembling a life. And it would be a severe blow to the Blacks’ reign. Regulus would be the new heir, and that was objectively amusing and catastrophic in equal measure.
But as it happened, nothing about sitting in the cart as it rattled along the uneven forest road was remotely funny. There was another reason why no rebel was particularly worried about what Sirius could or couldn't see, which was that even if their ankles and wrists hadn't been tied, there was no way James was in any condition to escape.
