Summary
Dennis is immediately distracted from his task choosing from the vending machine. Tilting his head down, he bounces her slightly on his hip, swaying from one side to the other. His mouth is moving, though Robby can’t hear what he’s saying from here. His cheeks are a little flushed, too.
“Do I need to remind you two that you’re professionals?” Dana comments from behind them. Robby mildly snaps out of it— well, enough to turn and see Jack beside him doing just as he’s doing: staring openly at Dennis with the tiny child. “He’s just holding a baby. And besides, you shouldn’t be ogling one of your students.”
“He’s not a student anymore,” Robby corrects her at the same time Jack protests, “We’re dating him.”
“You shouldn’t be ogling anyone, I don’t care what your excuses are.”
or: Jack and Robby witness Dennis caring for a clingy child and start thinking thoughts.

Summary
The front door is in sight, the welcoming orange glow of the lamp in the front hall a beacon to guide the now violently shivering Dennis to the safety and sanctity of the warmth beyond. He’s clumsily extracted a hand from where it was thrust deep into the pocket of his jeans, to pull his house key from his jacket. All that meets his touch is soggy cotton.
OR
Dennis storms out after a particularly personal argument and doesn't come back, or so it seems.

Dennis is house-sitting for Robby while he's on sabbatical, and what follows is several months of increasingly questionable behaviour, long-distance yearning, and the slow realisation that some distances are a lot harder to maintain than others.

Summary
Dennis takes a deep breath in to calm himself, but as he breathes out, he confesses, “Trinity made a bet with Samira that I could get anyone in the bar to buy me a drink because I kind of have a knack for it, but Samira chose you, and now they’re watching us, and I’m so sorry.”
His boss blinks at him a couple of times, probably figuring out the least problematic way to fire him or berate him for being so damn unprofessional. He should’ve just said no to Trinity and Samira and killed the vibes for the night; he’d prefer that to whatever Robby is about to say. He can already see the anger bubbling up inside him that’s going to—
“I’ll buy you a drink.”
Dennis stares at him, unblinking. After a few seconds, he manages to ask, “What?”
“I’ll buy you a drink,” Robby repeats, then leans over to pat the bar stool next to him. “But you’re going to have to earn it.”
