"Don't people usually do a good deed, like, because it's good? Not for a reward."

"Most people got sandwiches. Most people don't wander around Gotham in the middle of the damn night."

    Summary

    -
The silence in the car becomes unbearable.
“Hey kid,” Billy tries. “Where you from?”
    “The future,” she replies.
Okay, so she doesn’t wanna talk. “Right, got it.”
Except he desperately needs something to distract him. “Like distant future, or…?”
“A year and a half,” she says. “Maybe more.”
“Damn,” he whistles. “Future any good?”
    “No," she says. "Everyone dies.”
    “Sounds rough.”
    “Yes,” the girl agrees.
Doesn’t seem to be much of a talker, huh?
Playing along, he considers asking whether he dies as well. Being dead doesn’t sound too bad right now, but that’s probably not the thing you tell a ten-year old kid you just almost ran over.

    ch 19
Mainly billy pov. El travels back to s2 from 1.5yrs in the future, where the world has ended. She finds billy on his way to the Byers house, and gets him to drive her to the lab. On the way she tells Billy about the time travel and the world ending. She also tells him that he dies, but after him so does everyone else. Her and billy being at the lab saves Bob Newby and they all go back to the Byers house. Her presence keeps Steve and billy from fighting, but everything is still contentious. El goes with Hopper to close the gate- hopefully for good. Billy and Steve not fighting prevents the kids from going to the tunnels, and eventually max and billy and Steve go home. Neil beats billy badly in front of max, possibly the first time max has seen it/known of it. The next day, Steve and billy cut class together to smoke, Nancy and Jonathan (and the party) didn’t go to school. Steve answers a call on his radio that leaves him shaken up. Billy gets partnered with Robin for a science project and so he offers to drive everyone home. There’s a sudden storm and the car dies and they see the giant smoke mindflayer monster walking over them- then everything is back to normal, but the car clock went backwards by a few minutes. Billy takes everyone except Robin to the Byers to tell them. It’s revealed that El is missing after whatever happened when she tried to close the gate. Hopper pulls billy aside for a serious Talk- at the Byers last night Hopper has seemed suspicious of Billy’s deferential behavior, and the way billy avoided him.

    ch 12
After Abby, Connor, Danny, and Sarah are lost/die, 22yr old Becker is left in a manic haze trying to figure out how to fix things. Eventually Lester finds out about his crazy conspiracy boards and off-the-books investigating and threatens to fire him. Becker is at the end of his rope- Matt is an untrustworthy team leader and he’s devastated by his losses- so at the next anomaly he walks through it before anyone can stop him.
Becker took his weapons, some light camping gear, and an anomaly detector. He’s not totally unprepared but surviving in prehistory is very rough. He spends months jumping through anomalys before he manages to run into Helen in the apocalyptic future. She doesn’t recognize him and he chases her through an anomaly into pre-canon London. She manages to take a 16yr old Connor hostage, and Becker’s reaction to her confirms he’s from the Arc. Becker manages to save Connor, but Connor gets a bad concussion, and Becker leaves him to continue chasing Helen once emts are on their way. Helen loses him again, so Becker spends the next few months jumping through anomalies looking for her. Eventually he ends up in the Spaghetti junction and spends a lot of time going through the anomalies there. This gives him an idea of the overall pattern of anomaly time/location appearances and he can start to predict them. Becker is 24 now.
Eventually he ends up in London just a few years before Cutter finds his first anomaly, so he decides to stay. After researching he realizes that there is no Becker native to this time- something in the past changed and now neither he nor his parents exist. An existential crisis threatens, but Becker represses it and keeps forging onward. He takes under the table work, which eventually connects him with people who can forge him an identity. Becker is driven to regain his position at the Arc as soon as it’s created, so his fellow soldiers know him as extremely driven, productive, and focused. Fortunately he’s also always willing to help out and cover for his team so his ambition doesn’t alienate others. Unfortunately Becker is still extremely closed off so no one knows anything about him outside of work.
After the Arc is created, Becker succeeds in joining it from the start. He is 28 now and Connor is 24. He meets Connor again at the Forest of Dean anomaly, but stays in the background, more concerned with protecting him than reconnecting. At the giant centipede anomaly, he gives Stephen his bulletproof vest when Stephen insists on going into the tunnels after Connor. Becker later sneaks into the tunnels himself and runs into Helen- this version is younger than the one he’d been chasing and doesn’t recognize him. He shoots to kill but is unfortunately ambushed by the centipede and knocked out. Stephen and Cutter drag him out and he wakes with a bad concussion. He sees Connor walking by and his lowered inhibitions have him calling out to him and then gushing on how glad he is that Connor is back. Connor is confused but friendly and Becker ends up helping him identify the specific type of centipede. Becker slips in some future-knowledge by claiming it tried to bite him when it attacked, so Stephen and Cutter should assume it’s venemous. Thankfully, the situation is resolved without anyone getting poisoned this time.
Becker asked for a copy of the database so he could study the creatures they might face and Connor agreed to send it. After the anomaly closed, Connor tried flirting with Abby, but Abby playfully rejected him, instead teasing him about spending so much time a soldier. Connor doesn’t yet feel attracted to Becker, but his gender isn’t an issue.
Meanwhile, Connor has been hacking into cctv records trying to find the man who saved him from Helen when he was a teen. His memory is spotty from the concussion (and Becker looked rough from anomaly-jumping), so he doesn’t have a firm idea of what he looked like, and the footage isn’t great. Stephen catches him at it and Connor fibs that he’s trying to look into Helen’s disappearance to help Cutter, so Stephen leaves him be.
Becker, meanwhile, feels overwhelmed trying to fix everything by himself. One sleepless night he has the epiphany to ask for help- Danny isn’t missing during this time, and is crazy enough to believe him about anomalies/time travel. He contacts him at the police station and sets up a meeting.

    Summary

“Good news, bad news time,” Natasha said as Steve finally levered himself to his feet and then held his hand out to her.

“Good news,” Steve said as he hauled her upright, “the drones are all dead.”

“Bad news,” Natasha said, sliding her baton back into her harness, “got attacked by drones.”

“Good news,” Steve said, “Howard Stark’s bag of magic tricks still works. Bad news: he never fixed the problem where it fried all our kit, not just the bad guys’.”

“Good news,” Natasha said, “found out what Hammer and Sterns were after.”

“Bad news,” Steve said, “it was the Project Rebirth files.”

Six months after the Snap, Earth is slowly putting itself back together, or at least trying to fit its shattered pieces into a semi-functional whole. For Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, and the surviving Avengers, who have spent that time cloistered in New Asgard keeping an eye on King Loki and his people, this means new and old enemies, familiar faces, and coming back to the world – or not.

A prequel to On Yonder Hill.

Steve & Nat established relationship, triad with Loki happens during the establishment of New Asgard. Fic jumps between just after the Asgardians arrive on Earth and are starting to build New Asgard (flashbacks), and a couple years afterwards when they’re more established (present).
Part of Loki’s and the Asgardians’ terms for being allowed on Earth is that Loki is conscripted into the Avengers and on-call for any disasters.
