Her head is swimming. Falling and rising in equal measure. Tumbling down into the endless abyss and somehow simultaneously soaring higher than it ever has. Her pulse is a drumroll, thrumming thorugh her blood, through her bones, her nerves, her synapses, her very soul. She's never felt so alive, and yet somehow also so pliant.
Above her, Mira's eyes are wide. Pupils blown out like twin black holes, eclipsing the irises almost entirely.
"Oh," she whispers, "Fuck."
"Yeah," Zoey breathes, somewhere behind her. Rumi can't see her, but feels the weight of her against her spine. "Fuck indeed."

Summary
To say Rumi was unenthusiastic about starting a summer internship at the branch her Maman managed, was an understatement. It wasn’t the she was studying in and she was not looking forward to working for an office full of soul crushed sales people and accountants.
Luckily for her- and nobody else- the branch had recently undergone downsizing, restructuring, firing and rehiring, which resulted in a lively young workforce.
When Rumi first hides from her fellow sales women though and witnesses them fight over a client, she starts to wonder if this younger talent is really an improvement- other than the fact that both Mira and Zoey are drop dead gorgeous.
Not that it matters anyway what Rumi thinks. She is destined to be stuck between the two for the summer- as their desk mate of course and absolutely nothing else- so she may as well go on sales calls with them.
Surely her first sales call with the two sleazy sales women will be a perfectly normal, non gay panic involving experience. Right?
Or;
Huntrix but make them work for Dunder Mifflin with Rumi as an intern and ZoeMira as the sales staff. Hijinks, shenanigans and many sapphic experiences ensue

Summary
Huntrix goes to the doctor for flu shots, and Zoey HATES those. It's Rumi's first time receiving an injection from someone other than Celine, now that she doesn't have to hide her patterns. And Mira proposes a competition of strength, an old game she and Zoey call "Pinch, Don't Flinch". But maybe the one who flinches, and the reason why, isn't exactly what's expected.

When Rumi gets the chance to make amends with her childhood best-friend-turned-rival, Zoey, she jumps at it with both hands. If the intimidating Lieutenant Mira Kang is part of that deal, well, Rumi can live with that. Especially when Kang's got a plan that Rumi thinks could turn this whole damn system on its head.
But as Rumi knows all too well, good things don't last. Zoey and Mira aren't out to change the world; they're out to save Rumi.
Rumi has no interest in being saved, if she can't bring her people with her. She'll die down here in the dirt before she leaves them behind.
Mira and Zoey won't stop fighting for her. Rumi can't bring herself to do the right thing, and step away. How far can she push it before it all goes up in flames and she loses them both, all over again? Can she even keep them alive, when a crueller eye than they understand turns its gaze upon them?
The game's about to start, take your places please. There's no such thing as winning, in the end.

Celine was put in an impossible situation. Run the Sunlight Sisters record label, try to keep demons out of the world in the absence of two hunters, and raise a child that wasn't hers, all on her own.
Oh, and of course, just to add to the difficulty of her situation, the kid is half demon. She's lucky she's so stinking cute.

I've seen so many stories completely villainizing Celine, which I'm totally interested in exploring don't get me wrong, but I also disagree that that's how she is in canon. She's a lot more complex than that, I think. That being said, this ALSO isn't based on canon. This is Celine doing a better job at being the parent Rumi needed.
Also note that the first chapter is a prologue and not really in the style that the rest of the fic will be written in, it's just like that for atmosphere!

Several people have been demanding (not asking, demanding) I make an AU of my Demon Rearing AU where everything is totally happy and fine and, while I'm not committing to a full fic or anything, I also would like to explore their weird happy family a bit. So, have some random oneshots in no particular order that I'll update randomly of Rumi and her several (still living) parents.
Also because it's a bunch of oneshots, I can skip straight to polytrix things for some of these so that's fun.
These oneshots have nothing to do with the Demon Rearing canon and likely will not overlap or spoil anything, since this is a pretty different situation. Reading Demon Rearing probably isn't important to understanding any of these, but you know. If you want to know where this came from, that's where. There might be some added context if you read that first, but I don't think it's necessary.

And in spite of it all, despite the unexpected ridiculousness of the statement, despite how ill she felt, despite the burble of laughter that threatened in her throat, Rumi's media training switched straight on, and she gave a bland smile.
'That's not possible. It must be a false positive.'
But the doctor's smile was patient in turn. 'I might have agreed with you, but for the fact that we ran two types of test. Twice each. One false positive is easily possible. Four false positives…the chances are astronomically low.'
The doctor paused and turned around her computer monitor so Rumi could look. And Rumi did look, leaning in even as the static roar began in her ears. And there it was, four listings of a single word: POSITIVE.
'Congratulations,' the doctor said again, as Rumi began to fully appreciate how her battered laptop felt when it bluescreened.
Or, the Honmoon heard that Polytrix wanted kids and said, Let's make that happen.

Her heart rate had abruptly slowed, evened out to something that was barely noticeable. She smiled out at the crowd because she knew she should be. Turning back to her girls she smiled at them too, barely contained excitement visible in their eyes.
The moment they were off stage, Mira and Zoey began cheering.
"Did you see that!?", Zoey screamed. "Gold! It's gold! It's still gold, oh my GOD!"
"We did it", Mira was saying breathlessly. "We like, actually did it."
"Do you know what this means, Rumi!?", Zoey screamed, grabbing Rumi's shoulders and shaking her. Rumi got the sense that she should have been laughing.
The honmoon is successfully sealed golden and Rumi feels… fine. Maybe not quite fine. Maybe Rumi feels nothing at all.

She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
