When Eric Cartman stumbles onto Kyle's suicide attempt, blindsided, he decides it's time to get serious. Kyle always had the ability to consume his every waking thought, no matter what he did. At least now, he could put the obsession to good use. He'd fix this, no matter what he had to do.

Seventeen years was a long time to spend trapped in survival mode, constantly forced to endure all of the hardships thrown his way. Philip had never been one to complain about his misfortunes, he did not whine about how unfair life had treated him. He simply endured. For the sake of survival, but also because he really didn't know what else to do. For Philip, carrying that constant weight around on his shoulders was becoming more and more unbearable as time went on. Living day after day after day subjected to unending torment had eventually left him with a difficult choice to make.
Did he take the "easy" way out and end this pathetic excuse of a life for good? Or, was it worth the effort to start over someplace new, with a renewed sense of hope that, one day, he might become privileged enough to live happily?

Rome functions both as a point of origin and as a diagnostic environment: a city meaningful to him yet sufficiently alien to cause discomfort, exacerbating his impending mental deterioration.
He attempts to fulfill the prophecy while Pip remains at his side, fully aware both of Damien’s nature and of the repercussions of their relationship. This initial peace is deceptive. Damien’s unwillingness to fulfill his designated role requires correction.
