The longer you stare into the abyss the more certain it becomes that it was always watching. In the beginning he was a creature of logic, a tech-priest utterly consumed by the sacred compulsion to understand and devour the unknown xenos but the stars don't forgive the curious. He finds himself taken by the impossible charisma of a predator wearing a crown of shadows, their souls bleed into one another and with that violation the descent begins.
He is unmade and reforged in the echoing arteries of the Dark City where suffering is nourishment and affection is a currency rarely spent. To ensure this fragile thing doesn't shatter itself in pursuit of glory he is assigned a warden, a stoic killer cold as the moon and twice as watchful. Slowly and inevitably whispers of trust begin where none should be while a theatrical nightmare who calls himself an haemonculus teaches him how to not die in a city that invents new deaths daily.
Beneath the breathless bones of Commorragh on markets where memories are sold by the gram and coven performances so grotesque they border on divine revelation he learns mercy is the only true betrayal. Now the abyss no longer stares, it whispers and he listens.
