    Summary

“Glad to see you back among the living,” Phainon says through a yawn, clearly having spent the night in the uncomfortable chair in the infirmary by Mydei’s side. Like he often does.

Mydei’s head hurts. Just the regular kind of pain, easily managed by ignoring it until it goes away. But what makes it worse, is the confusion at his predicament. The memories returning to him in death used to vary in time and people who appeared in them. Why is it always Phainon nowadays?

“Fuck you,” Mydei says, hoarsely. He feels like he is losing his mind.

Phainon’s mouth locks mid-yawn and he blinks down at him stupidly, tilting his head with confusion. It’s probably fair, he hasn’t even done anything to earn Mydei’s ire as of late.

or; Human brain lives for a few more minutes after dying, replaying the most cherished memories. Mydei starts seeing Phainon after each of his deaths.

    Summary

“Oh, now you’re saying being paired with me means luck’s rotten?”

    “That’s what you’ve implied.”

“Now, that’s not what I said at all in no moment of this conversation. You’re always putting words in my mouth.”

“Putting words in your mouth? If you don’t want to be misinterpreted, you should start speaking directly,” this time, it was Mydei who got closer to Phainon, having to look slightly up to maintain the eye contact. “So much for the debate champion, seems you can only talk in riddles.”

Or, Phainon starts having wet dreams about the man who keep getting on his nerves.

    Summary

He hadn’t known Fig Stew was ticklish but the noisy frenzy was reminiscent of the tortuous laughter and cries for mercy of the children who insisted they wrestle to test their strength against The Deliverer. He redoubled his efforts and searched for weaknesses with the singleminded focus of a warrior triumphing over the most difficult of foes.

Only to be smacked across the face by the same rough scales that swiftly slithered around his neck while warm, slender fingers grabbed his chin. Together, they forced his head back.

“Stop,” a low, human voice growled, intimidation hampered by a pained breathlessness.

On his quest to locate Mydei for the first of their daily baths, all Phainon manages to find is Fig Stew napping away in Mydei’s rooftop garden.

Except that chimera isn’t Fig Stew at all.

    Summary

Sinking to rock bottom looks different to different people. Some know they’re on the way when they lose their job. Others may feel the slip when they’re spending more time in casinos than in the comfort of their own home. Sometimes it’s as mundane as simply noticing your hairline receding from excess stress.

Phainon knew he was sinking to his own rock bottom when he woke up sweaty and seconds from orgasm after a wet dream about a fucking lingerie model.

Or, Phainon accidentally develops a fixation on a man thanks to his own traitorous mind, and instead of behaving rationally, he continually makes the problem ten times worse. Apparently, having a PhD in understanding the human psyche does not make you immune to the biological weaknesses of it.

    Summary

The sight seizes air from his lungs, because behind the counter, arranging a bouquet of white tulips and pink lilies with a gentle precision, is a man who he would recognize anywhere, someone who he feels like he’s known across a thousand lifetimes.

Phainon’s seen him in sun-drenched markets. In the battlefield, in bathhouses, under the moonlight with the same sharp eyes. He’s seen the same hands that are currently arranging flowers offer him a cup of pomegranate juice. He’s felt those hands against his own. He’s seen them stained with gold.

    “Mydei?”

Only when ‘Mydei’s’ eyes widen in surprise does Phainon realize that he’s been staring, jaw slacked. At a complete stranger. Fuck.

Or, Phainon learns that giving flowers to a florist is harder than it seems, especially when that florist looks exactly like the man who he’s seen a hundred times before in his dreams.
