    “Why’d you bring him here?” Nutmeg sat, wrapping her tail around Rusty to protect him from the night wind.
    “My housefolk are going to get rid of him,” she told him. “They’ve already gotten rid of the others, and he’s the only one left. I want you to protect him. Keep him safe. He’s feisty, even for a kitten so young.” Indeed, the kit had begun to bat at his mother’s tail. Jake gently batted the kit in return, and Rusty leapt towards him, stumbling and crashing into him. Jake purred.
    “I see that!” Jake wrapped his tail around his son. “Nutmeg, I can’t keep him- my housefolk would never let a kitten into the house.” Nutmeg shook her head.
    “Figure out something to do with him; I can’t let him be taken away like the others have.”

     

     

    Nutmeg brings Rusty to his father, urging him to keep him safe from the Twolegs. Jake can't help out-- but he knows someone who can.

    (Post-Tallstar's Revenge, Pre-Into the Wild. Rusty is taken in as a kit by WindClan to be raised as their own.)

    Renamed to Crown of Thorns: Red Sky to denote that it is now the first in the Crown of Thorns series/rewrite. New look, same great taste.

    What if, upon Leafpool receiving the "Bramble claws" omen towards the end of Sunset, she read it instead as "Thorn claws"? After all, one of those two was eligible for the deputyhood, and it wasn't Brambleclaw.

    After getting turned down for the deputyhood, Brambleclaw has a realization. Several realizations, in fact.

    A canon divergence/rewrite of Warriors, starting from Chapter 17 of Sunset on. It'll extend for as long as I feel like it/have time.
