Summary
Connor’s internals are wide open to see, blue mechanics pumping thirium through and out. Although when thirium comes in large amounts, it is almost black, just like blood. “Why what?” Everything fragile on display, Connor finally meets Nines’s gaze. “Why couldn’t have things been different?” Nines doesn’t get the chance to answer. “Why couldn’t we have been on a different case?” Again, Connor doesn’t pause. “Or maybe, why is it so unfair for us in this world?”
“No, I don’t understand why it had to be you.”
"That's rich, Nines." Connor smiles. "It's because I was the one who took the stand, and I paid for it."
"You make it sound simple."
"It isn't. But even so, I still expect you to do those same things for me, on my behalf."

Summary
After sustaining a serious injury, Connor reflects on the changes in his life since he deviated and faces some of the lingering doubts that haunt his memories and dreams. When his condition suddenly deteriorates Hank and Markus realize how much their lives had been changed by having met Connor, causing the group to truly appreciate who they have in their lives as their allies, friends and family, unaware of Connor's inner struggle with a ghost from his past.
