Seungmin is leaning against the kitchen island opposite him, watching him. There’s even fake blood splattered from his neck to his cheekbone, Jeongin notices. He swallows dry.
“What about you, father?” he asks before Jeongin can come up a response of his own.
For a moment, he blanks, before he remembers his own costume and tries to ignore the way his stomach lurches at that word on Seungmin’s lips.

“We need to talk, is all,” Seungmin says, his eyes suddenly intense as he looks at Minho.
Best to feign innocence, which Minho only thinks he is good at doing. “What about?” he asks, fluttering his eyelashes as if to say What clicker? I haven’t been subconsciously training you to respond to a clicker I keep in my pocket at all. How silly.
Seungmin sputters, as if Minho is being ridiculous, playing at innocence. And, yeah, he is, but it was worth a shot. He exhales heavily, the apology already on the tip of his tongue.
“I’m sorry that I—”
“About the fact that you’re in love with me,” Seungmin hisses.
The world jerks to a stop. Standing there, pressing Seungmin against the kitchen counter by his hips and looking into his eyes, he wonders what had given him that impression. Minho was using Seungmin to his own ends, and sacrificing quite a lot to do so. Making every attempt to see Seungmin and spend time with him, being weirdly complimentary when necessary, even offering to do inane chores—
Oh.
Wherein Minho needs a subject for a school project, and Seungmin is the closest thing to a dog Minho can find.

“You’re being pierced,” Jisung fires back, like that explains anything.
“Oh.” Hyunjin’s grin goes quick and smug. He lifts the hem of his shirt again and Jisung’s last brain cell swan-dives off a balcony. “I forgot you hadn’t seen.”
Forgot. As if Jisung would ever forget this. As if the image isn’t already branded on the inside of his skull like an afterimage from staring at the sun.
“It’s healed,” Hyunjin says, bright, pleased. “Don’t do your worried face.”
“I’m not—there is no—this is my resting face,” Jisung says, attempting a resting face and achieving something like stunned woodland creature.

A flash of gold at the hinge of skin derails Jisung’s whole day. Hyunjin’s new belly button piercing is small, healed, stupidly pretty—and suddenly impossible to unsee. Best friends aren’t supposed to feel like this, but Jisung’s braincells are gone, scattered, possibly forming a support group somewhere near his dignity.

The silence stretched to the very edge of bearable in the dark room. Seungmin’s gaze dropped to Minho’s mouth, his mind racing at full speed.
“Sometimes it doesn’t work out…” Seungmin whispered. The courage came from somewhere unknown, pushing his hand to slide beneath the covers until his fingers found Minho’s, intertwining them. “How do we find out if it does?” His voice trembled, but his grip on Minho’s hand was steady. He held his breath, waiting, not entirely sure what he was asking for, but unable to stop himself from asking it anyway.
Minho’s thumb stroked the back of Seungmin’s hand, his gaze lifting from Seungmin’s mouth straight to his eyes, searching for any trace of hesitation, any flicker of doubt.
“Are you asking me to kiss you, Seungmin?” Minho murmured, his tone dripping with warmth and something softer. The corner of his lips twitched, not quite a smile, not quite a tease, either.
