Summary
Instead of wandering the arctic tundra, the creature, now called Adam, has accepted work on the Danish ship. The sailors are wary at first, but with Adams strength providing a welcome respite from work, many have warmed to him. He sails with them for months, no real destination in mind, no goal other than to be useful. He longs for connection, and finds his nightmares difficult to ignore.
Eva Barker is the only child of a Danish leathersmith who finds pleasure in causing pain to his lovely daughter. After years of physical abuse, the nature of her fathers attentions has turned more sinister. He tells her that he will move them to a new town where he shall declare her as his wife instead of his own child. With her mother dead, Eva decides she must escape to the safety of her mothers brother, Uncle Boris in Edinburgh. How to reach there? Stowing away on a cargo ship where a strange scarred man is hiding seems the best course...
