"No way." Jeremy covered his mouth, but it didn't hide his growing smirk.

Jeremy held his breath, face pulled in all sorts of directions. He managed to stay like that for several minutes, before bursting into laughter. "No freakin' way, he actually made you wear that?"
Michael sagged, giving his boyfriend the stink eye. "He said he'd pay me." An orange-red ear flopped into his eyes. Michael moved it out of his face, resisting the urge to rip it clean off.
"No amount of money could ever convince me to wear that."

“Ah— um— well, that’s— wouldn’t it, um… be better kept, a surprise…?” Ralsei squeaked. He was a terrible outright liar, Susie thought. It was no wonder he just kept his mouth shut instead.
“Dude, come ON. Give me something here. I don’t need to know who, or whatever…” She pursed her lips, grateful her bright magenta skin hid her own blush, “But, I dunno, maybe something like… What does ‘love’ even mean?”
“U-uhm, well, LOVE—I mean, love is… it’s when…”

They noticed how the moon on the other side of the lake made the water look black, like pure darkness. It was quite beautiful, so long as they didn’t think about what lay beneath it. The stars shone on, starkly contrasting the dark sky.
They blinked and saw a new contrast: a flash of Susie’s smile, luminous but confined to the black sky of a supply closet.
They wanted to take her here. Show her things. Show her the sky. Again, and again, and again.
