Summary
A year has passed since Lan Zhan and Wei Ying left the cultivation world, leaving everyone to think the worst.
In their absence, Lan Yongzheng has been improving his sect - implementing new wards, taking new security measures, making allies - all in an attempt to prevent the horrible future his son and son-in-law came from.
When he receives a letter from the pair, announcing they are to finally wed, the pair that have long been hidden and assumed dead by the cultivation world finally interact with those they have left behind.

He heard both of their screams over the sounds of the wolves. He felt the way Wei Ying trembled, hands almost painfully tightening their hold on Lan Zhan’s neck, refusing to let go, to let the wolf have access to the precious skin.
A wolf jumped on top of them, pressing them both down onto the forest floor.
This is it, Lan Zhan thought, refusing to close his eyes, forcing himself to keep his gaze open, eyes locked onto Wei Ying’s.
Then, there was a glow coming from behind Wei Ying, Lan Zhan’s eyes widened as it wound around them before pulling, taking both of them with it.

Jiang Wanyin had claimed Wei Wuxian left when they were sleeping, that they had planned on going back to Lotus Pier, to fight against the Wen stronghold that was there, to reclaim the bodies of Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan - and Wei Wuxian had fled, run, disappeared, vanished.
He claimed that he woke up, and Wei Wuxian was gone, not a single trace of him in the space they had found to sleep in.
Immediately, others were giving Jiang Wanyin their condolences for having such a disobedient disciple, for Wei Wuxian fleeing in the night after everything he had caused, leaving the aftermath to be faced alone by Jiang Wanyin.
Lan Wangji had never believed such a story.

“Perhaps,” the handsome man says, “but how old do you think I am?”
Wei Ying squints again. Looking closer, he’s now noticing the faint hint of crow’s feet around the man’s eyes when he smiles.
“I must be older than you by a good decade or two,” the man hums. “So, it is not too impossible that I could have grown up under your Lan-shushu’s care, too.”

There's this tumblr post about what would have happened if Jin Zixun poisoned that wine he gave to the twin Jades. Or planned to. He was /planning/ to have a little fun with them and make them appear a little drunk by the poison to draw on their golden cores. What he did not know is that Wei Wuxian would step in and -because he has no core- just collapse immediately in the middle of the banquet.
This is about as well-received as expected.
