Der introvertierte Dorflehrer und Werwolf Remus Lupin ist auf der Suche nach einem geeigneten Ehemann, als er plötzlich die Aufmerksamkeit des eigenbrötlerischen aber reichen Zaubertrankmeisters Severus Snape einfängt. Die beiden entscheiden sich dazu, eine beidseitig vorteilhafte Ehe einzugehen (mit allem was dazu gehört!). Der Plan ist einfach. Die Umsetzung erweist sich jedoch als schwierig - vor allem wenn zwieträchtige Familienmitglieder sich einmischen. "In the year 2010, on Sunday the 9th of January, Severus walked into the Great Hall for dinner and the staff and children hollered, 'Happy Birthday, Professor Snape!' and they clapped and sang for him Auld Lang Syne as if they were bidding him farewell. Inevitably, the children faltered, misspoke, petered out, and, in the end, it was just Minerva, the Sorting Hat, and the school's ghosts singing the old Scots song. He scanned the many sheepish faces of his colleagues and students with his usual dispassion. Did they expect him to weep? Laugh? Run? Rage, rage against the dying of the light? Did they not know him at all?"
After a too-revealing speech at his suprise 50th, the Headmistress forces Severus Snape to go on "research leave". There is only one person who he trusts enough to heal him, but does she have the time or inclination? One-shot.

Summary
A short-lived series of private lessons took place after Christmas in Harry Potter's fifth school year, during which Severus Snape attempted to teach Harry the skill of Occlumency. The lessons were ultimately cancelled when Harry was caught prying into Snape's memories, discovering the strangest things: A mysterious prophecy connected Harry's fate with Voldemort's, Harry's dad was an insufferable bully, and Severus Snape had been in love with Harry's mum. Naturally, Harry now has a million questions. Snape would prefer to answer none.
The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes. The same question arises in every soul: "For what, for whom, must I kill and be killed?"
...Or, a classic approach to stubbornness.
