Summary
“Give it back,” he snarls.
“Make me.” Sonic laughs, ducking out of his reach again and into the kitchen.
Shadow follows him around the island, trying to corner him, but he flashes just out of reach every time. Somehow, Sonic manages to trip on the floor between the kitchen and the living room, and Shadow lunges for him. They tumble into the room together. He fights to make sure he comes out on top.
He rips his ring from Sonic’s grip, shoving him into the floor. “You can’t do that!” he snarls, leaning down low. “Don’t you know what you could have done?”
He doesn’t realize Sonic is already wincing until sharp, red sparks travel down his arm, crackling into the blue hedgehog’s body. Sonic yelps.
“Hey!” he hears. Shadow snaps his head up. Every Wachowski is looking at him. Tails’ eyes are wide, Tom and Maddie look completely caught off-guard. Knuckles, the one who’d spoken, looks angry, jerking forward.
Shadow lets go immediately, metal landing on the carpet with a dull thud. He stumbles back, losing his balance.
When he hits the ground, there’s dirt underneath him. He picks himself up and he runs.
Tails brings him back.

Summary
The frog can probably survive until he can move it tomorrow. He can manage the water otherwise. Still, he’d like to make sure there are no other factors to consider. He reads on.
If only Sonic had told him how easy it was to get lost in a computer.
“Hey, bud. What are you doing?”
Shadow startles, and he’s suddenly on the other side of the room, fizzling electricity cooling down under his skin. Tom is sitting up in his chair at the table, completely awake and looking at him. He tenses, ready to bolt.
“You’re okay, you’re not in trouble,” Tom says quickly, holding up a hand. “Relax.”
Shadow narrows his eyes.
“Please,” the man adds. “I can see you bristling.”

Shadow finds a frog outside in the cold. He tries to save it on his own, but Tom finds out - and helps him bring it to a nearby creek.

“Hell no. Absolutely not. I’m going home.”
The vigilante still sitting on him widens his eyes. “Home? You want to leave?” he says, sounding so hurt it stabs through Jason’s heart. “But you're alive! I just- I just got you back, you can't leave!”
“He’s not leaving,” Robin soothes, shooting him an entirely unearned dirty look. “I already called the Batmobile, we can take him back and make sure he's actually your brother.”
“What? No! No, no no nononono- Fuck no!”
Even as he struggles to get out, the weights holding him down do not relent. The kid actually has the audacity to look amused, and he reaches out to flick Jason in the throat. It triggers a fit of coughing, and, of course, the virus decides it’s the perfect time to hit him with chills so cold he’s left shivering and gasping from the coughing.
“Good luck trying to run while you’re sick,” Robin says smugly.
Dick shoots him an alarmed look. “You’re sick?”
Jason groans, thumping his head back. “I'm not sick.”

Summary
“Can I ask you a question?”
Shadow blinks his eyes and turns to her, glancing behind him like he’s going to be able to see the quills still coated with conditioner. It catches on his urge to avoid. “You trapped me,” he accuses.
Maddie just laughs, smiling at him. “You got me,” she says, raising her hands guiltily. “You don’t have to answer it, though. It’s your choice.”
He narrows his eyes at her suspiciously, searching her face. She just tips her head at him. “What.”
She gestures, and he closes his eyes again, flattening his ears on his head so she can resume washing out his fur. “Why are you so dead set on leaving us?” She hums the question casually, tone straight, like the answer doesn’t matter to her. Like he’s not going to get in trouble for answering. It’s a dangerous tone; It can’t be trusted.
Shadow is quiet for a few seconds, searching for the safest answer. “I don’t belong here,” he eventually settles on.

Wordlessly, they flick a switch, and the noise is played loud enough for the entire room to hear it.
“Please,” a voice sobs, “Please, it hurts- I'm scared, I just- please, I just want to live. Why doesn't anyone else want that? Why can't I- I want to-” it breaks off into more sobbing and the room practically vibrates with tension.
“That-! That is the language spoken by Engineer Rocky's Grace! That is HUMAN language!”
“Yes.”
“There is a human down there?? That shouldn't be-”
“But there is. What now?”
