Summary
If only she had paid closer attention to the tale of Tantalus.
There had been no middle ground for Tantalus. He wanted it all, he got nothing. He wanted it all, he got worse than nothing. He got eternal tension — to yearn and never release. Torture in its biblical form.
There would be no middle ground for Michaela, either. She could not have part of Francesca while she still coveted the whole.

Summary
“How was dinner with the Lords?” Francesca asks, hooking a finger beneath Michaela’s chin and tipping her face upward until their eyes lock onto each other.
“You cannot don such a garment,” Michaela replies, her voice deep with desire, “and then expect me to answer such a trivial question.”
Francesca merely rolls her eyes in amusement while she reaches back to the ribbon that is securing her hair in a loose braid. In a smooth motion, she pulls it away and runs her fingers through her honey-brown locks, letting them spill loose over her shoulders.
“It is not trivial. I care to know very much,” Francesca says. “But if you are quite so distracted…” Her fingers find the tie of her robe, drawing it loose, allowing the fabric to part just enough to get her point across, “then I suppose we may speak of it later.”
-
After spending a long night apart, Michaela unwinds as Francesca tends to her needs in the best way she knows how.
