    He’s suddenly in front of me, gripping my jaw and tilting my face up towards him. Despite the aggression in the action, his hold is gentle and I freeze like a stunned rabbit.

    “Did he do this?” He asks in a low voice, inspecting the bruise on my cheek. The reminder kickstarts my brain and I struggle to get free but it’s like trying to get a statue to move.

    “Let me go.” I demand, digging my nails into his wrist. “Klaus, let me go.”

    “Answer me, Elena.” He ignores me, eyes narrowed to golden slits. “Did Stefan lay his hands on you?”

    I let out a shaky breath as he strokes his thumb under my split bottom lip.

    “…Yes.” I whisper, lowering my gaze in shame and he finally releases me, a muscle in his jaw jumping.

    “I will kill him.” Not a threat, a promise and I should be afraid but all I can think is…

    ‘When was the last time someone took my side?’

    OR When Stefan leaves Elena on the bridge, she calls Klaus to pick her up. It's the best decision she's ever made.
