Summary
Robin dies.
Tim isn’t a little kid anymore. He understands that people - most people - die rather easily, sooner or later.
But Robin isn’t most people.
Robin was supposed to be magic. Like Tim.
Or: Tim's mother passes down more than just a sharp wit and a strong sense of independence, and the batfam are under some severe misapprehensions.

When Hood met the latest human trafficking idiots trying to establish a foothold in his territory, he wasn’t expecting them to have magic. Or Nightwing. Or a magicked Nightwing about a foot shorter and a decade younger.

Summary
“We don’t have to—I didn’t want to make it a thing,” Jason said, then immediately rolled his eyes. “Okay, maybe I did want to make it a little bit of a thing. Father’s Day gift and all.”
“This is . . . more than a gift,” Bruce said thickly.
“Yeah, well. You’re hard to shop for, old man. Can’t exactly get you socks.”
In which Jason gives Bruce his Father’s Day gift early. So he can get ahead of the competition, of course.

Summary
Somewhere along the line Tim had neglected to account for two very glaringly important facts: Dick Grayson could stage a performance like no other, and he was uniquely adept at manipulating the way he was viewed by younger heroes, especially those he considered to be his younger brothers. And Tim, being one of said brothers, made the fatal mistake of forgetting that he was not immune to Dick’s maneuverings.
These realizations came rather synchronously as Tim watched Nightwing and Talia al Ghul exchange blows in a dark warehouse on the outskirts of Blüdhaven.
Or
Tim watches Dick and Talia fight and realizes that he missed the memo on them hating each other

Summary
Preening was the most intimate ritual in avian cultures. Done only by family and partners, it was more than simple hygiene for avians. It was a gesture of trust and love. There were very specific customs about where they were done, what words were spoken to cue the ritual, and who could do it. Traditions varied slightly, but the core concepts remained the same. Among avians, requests to preen and be preened were expected to be semi-frequent, in order to maintain the deep bonds that avians kept with each other.
Or, 5 times Bruce preens his birds and 1 time they preen him.
