Summary
Two key truths had remained constant for Jay McCarrol since his childhood: one, Matt was always there; and two, Jay had no real sense of direction in his life.
On the rare occasions in which he had allowed himself to reflect on it, Jay had always ended up reaching the same conclusion: a change in number one must be the key to changing number two.
After experiencing a timeline without Matt at his side and making the decision to go back to set things right, though, Jay realizes how much he values the life that they have together, and it finally occurs to him that maybe the purpose that he’s been searching for his whole life has been right there in front of him the entire time.
Or, Jay decides to propose to Matt.

Will honestly hadn't gone snooping in Mike's bedroom, he never would have done it on purpose. It was an accident, when he found the box hidden in the back of Mike's closet. He could even potentially claim that it was an accident when he opened it and looked inside. At a certain point, though, accident stops covering it. There's really no excuse when Will reads the letter, but he can't bring himself to regret it, in the end.
(Will finds letters Mike had written to him when he was in Lenora).

Jay doubts that that was on the table, that there was any world in which Kayla would have fucked him, in which their coffee date turned movie-on-the-couch would have turned into anything but a few chaste kisses, the game ending firmly at first base. Jay laughs because it’s funny.
The laughter bubbles in his chest, and where he wouldn’t normally push the issue, he launches himself back into Matt’s space, loops his arms around his neck, and pulls him in for a hug.

The thing is that he likes Matt a lot, which is fine. It is. It’s good, probably. That’s what people say, right? That love, as a general concept, is a good thing. Not that he loves Matt yet, but... It’s that ‘yet’ that’s getting to him. He feels like he’s falling headfirst into something he’s entirely unequipped for, something that’s doomed to explode and take the both of them out when it goes. He knows Matt much better now than he did Saturday morning, will know him a little better by the time he leaves, better still the next time, and the next, but he still can’t shake the feeling like something’s missing, or like he wants too much even though he doesn’t really know what it is that he wants. It’s the dreams. They’re fucking him up.
