Sydney would complain about her constant cold fingers and dry knuckles often, she shouldn’t have been surprised Carmy wasn’t just listening but cataloging the facts about her into some place in his brain. It made her ache, to be thought of like that.

Unbidden, her mind drifts to the little bench that forms a right angle out the back entrance of The Bear, and the not-cigarette breaks she takes there. She’s never tired after those: Carmy knows she can be grumpy and awkward and silent during a long day of work, and he likes talking to her anyway.

“Woah. That is. That’s pretty short.” Sydney plops her phone back down on the clothed table face down. Why the fuck is she so disappointed?
Carmy’s eyebrows scrunch together as he agrees. “Yeah, it is.” He pauses to consider. “Do you wanna get out of here? I think they have a kitchen in the place they have us for the night. I can make you something.”
Sydney’s eyes widen and her head shoots back just a bit. “You cook?” Carmy shakes his head before pausing and nodding for a solid five seconds, it makes her chuckle under her breath.
“I do. At least I think I do. Kind of just remembered that I can.”
