Strahm knew something was wrong the minute Hoffman stopped commenting on his driving. Even with the patched-up hole in his face, the man had made it his mission to drive the former agent’s blood pressure through the roof. He’d remained infuriatingly talkative throughout the entire trip, despite Strahm’s warnings that he was going to irritate his stitches.

Summary
The pressure from the second beam was agony on his stomach as he pushed past it—his belly compressing into a space his ample chest could barely squeeze through—but he used his body weight to force himself behind it. He burped uncomfortably, his stomach sagging into the space between the two girders. It was an even tighter fit than the first and the metal pushed in the sides of his gut. It gurgled its complaint against the rough treatment, which Hoffman resolutely ignored. He’d be done soon enough.
