"Do you trust me?" She asks, straightening her shirt; a green babydoll top with delicate lace over her chest. She doesn't quite fit it yet, but she fills it out better than she had when she bought it.
Collie quirks a brow, but nods, twisting his own hair up into a low ponytail.
"Okay, one, put your hair back down," Gillian demands, turning around and reaching out to do it herself without even giving him the chance. Collie huffs a laugh, tilting his head to let her remove the hair tie, "I want Meemaw to see how pretty you are, okay? She's a judgmental old bitch, but she's always liked long hair. It's why my dad let me keep mine when I got into high school."
Collie gives a slight nod, trying not to move too much as Gillian carefully pulls out the tie and starts finger combing his hair until it frames his face again, deft fingers working out knots from where his head had rubbed against the headrest.
"Two, relax. She's going to love you—I wouldn't have even brought you if I wasn't sure," she speaks softly, cupping his cheeks and giving them a slight squeeze, "and if she doesn't love you now, she will. You're impossible not to love."

By the time he looked back Barkovitch's jaw was clamped down around Collie's shoulder, lips pulled back and teeth on display—it didn't look gentle, or teasing. It looked affectionate, yet needy. Maybe if it was anybody else, Pete could see it as friendly. Pete had been bitten by Hank more times than he can count, but it was always when he was trying to be annoying, an action taken after they'd been fucking with each other. This was different—Barkovitch has just done this unprompted and he doesn't initiate touch unless he feels like he won't be rejected. It's why, when he's drunk, he always goes to Harkness, who'd hold just about anyone if they asked him to, or Stebbins, who is awkward about it, but clearly cares about Barkovitch enough to reciprocate, or Collie who…well, apparently who he's got something going on with.

The guys gorgeous—about the same height as he is, but bigger in the kind of way that makes Pete salivate; soft, boyish features, red hair and a galaxy of freckles; a cute smile that shows off crooked teeth that Pete wants, no, needs to run his tongue over, and the warmest eyes he's ever seen. Really, the only thing that gives him pause is the fact that he's smiling at Barkovitch at all, but maybe he's just as nice as he looks.

Arthur Schopenhauer describes the situation as such: a group of hedgehogs wish to move closer to share heat during the winter, however, they must remain apart to avoid hurting each other with their quills. Although they wish to share space, this cannot occur, for reasons out of their control.

Summary
Shane is in a post-game interview when his world stops.
He’s just answered a question about Montreal’s offensive strategy going into the game. Clean passes, avoid penalties, draw defenders wide. It had worked and the Voyagers had beat Colorado soundly, 4-1. Shane had scored two of the goals and assisted on a third.
Usually, Shane would be eager to boast about the win to Ilya. But ever since their fight- since Ilya told Shane to leave- winning feels hollow. Losing feels better, somehow. As if Shane deserves to lose after being so selfish. Ilya gave up everything for him- his home, his team, and to some extent- his happiness. Hockey. Ilya gave up hockey- good hockey- for Shane.
A ripple goes through the room of reporters. Shane swears he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘crash’. But no one is paying attention to him anymore.
“What’s going on?” he asks into the microphone, feeling strange at the role reversal. Usually, he’s the one being asked questions.
No one answers. And this time he knows that he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘Centaurs’.

“Excuse me, who are you?”
Ilya has to keep his jaw from dropping at the tone of Shane’s voice. Shane Hollander, who is always incredibly polite to everyone, has just snapped at Svetlana. That’s when Ilya notices the slight glaze over his eyes, the flush that covers his cheeks and the bridge of his nose and the half empty beer glass in his hand.
“Hollander, what are you doing here?” Ilya asks, pulling his boyfriend’s eyes back to him.
“I’m at a club, Rozanov. Obviously I’m doing what you usually do at a club. Drinking and having fun.”
Ilya doesn’t know whether to be offended with Shane’s sarcastic tone or laugh because this Shane Hollander is a sight to behold. He is standing in front of him, sarcastic and bratty, with a smirk taking over his face now–proud of his answer.
or: there’s a reason that Shane Hollander shouldn’t drink alcohol, especially not in a bar in Boston with a certain Russian hockey player around.
