“Hey, man,” Doc added, raising his hand in an awkward greeting. Etho’s eyes crinkled in a smile.
“Hey - this is Tommy, by the way,” he said, moving out of the way to almost present the teenager to them. Tommy shrunk back from them, the reaction Doc was expecting. But then, to his surprise, his eyes moved to Beef - sweet, friendly Beef - and he hid even more, even taking an extra step back.
That solidified it in Doc’s mind.
He would do anything for this child.
(Perhaps Doc should stop keeping track of the things he will never admit)
OR:
Doc is used to the confused looks he gets when he meets new people. And he's learnt to find great amusement in frightening his friends for it. Tommy, though, is the exception to the rule

“You know, most Players don’t come to the Nether to realx,” Tango mentioned after a moment. Gently trying to get any information out of Tommy that the teenager was willing to offer.
There was a heavy silence for a moment, then-
“My brother’s a Piglin hybrid. When my dad left us, he’d go into the Nether to escape. Because it felt like home to him,” Tommy said, his voice quiet and thoughtful. “Being with him in the Nether… it was when he’d be my brother, not my guardian… you know?”
“Sure,” Tango said. He’s not even sure how he managed to get the word out with how dry his mouth has gone at the confession. As it has so often in the weeks he’s known Tommy, his heart aches for this child who had to grow up too fast.OR:
Tango was no stranger to burn-out or stress. With the amount of pressure he put on himself creating his game (YES, Impulse, he was WORKING ON IT), it was common for him to become overwhelmed. But someone else has found his cranny in the astral library
