Summary
“Grace, question?”
I perk up at the sound of Rocky's voice. It's not uncommon after almost two years into our trip to Erid to ask random questions about me, or humans, or really earth in general. Especially after an hour or two on his computer.
“Yes Rocky?”
“Humans persistence predators, question? Humans hunters, question?”
“Ah.”

Bookmarker's Notes
I raised my hand up to grab the students’ attention. Like most classrooms, it took a second, but they all turned their attention onto me.
“Alright class, please each of you come to the front.” I didn't want to explain right then, yet the students followed my order and came just in front of my desk.
Right. Ok. Now for the fun part. The stoneipede is made of, well, stone similar to an Eridian so dropping a book on it like I want to won't do much harm. But I do have a screwdriver. Its something helpful to keep on hand when you have many little rocks running around breaking things (on purpose or not). I carefully pull it out and inform the kids to stay by the desk.

Bookmarker's Notes
Grace pressed his hand briefly against the wall before sitting down in the chair he'd long since arranged just so. He'd had the chair for years. It was not a comfortable chair. It had started as an uncomfortable chair and time had made it worse. He'd asked the Eridians for a better one three times, and three times they had built him something xenonite-adjacent that suited Eridian sensibilities and did not suit his lumbar spine whatsoever. He had stopped asking.
…
Explain, he said softly.
"I don't mean I was confused. I mean ... I didn't know my name. I knew what oxygen was. I knew how to operate the ship.
The science was there, all of it, intact. But I didn't know Ryland Grace. I didn't know where he'd come from or why he was there or what kind of man he was.
I was a person with all the knowledge and none of the ... story."Rocky was very still.
That's death, he said.
The words were quiet. Not dramatic. Just a conclusion arrived at through impeccable and devastating logic.
"People don't see it that way."
People are wrong.
"Maybe."

I will build you a home. I will build you a sky.
I will do everything Rocky asks of me.
So you must do all Rocky needs of you.

Summary
Back on Earth (not back home, not anymore, not for a very long time) I think I remember there being some kind of rule against teachers having their own kids in their classes.
It was never relevant to me, what with my somewhat impressive lack of Earthly connections.
It’s relevant now. Very relevant.
Rocky and Adrian's pebbles' first day as Grace's students is not the most relaxing of days on Erid.

Bookmarker's Notes
All three little terrors jump straight off Rocky to the ground, fifteen tiny feet and claws kicking off him like their own personal launch pad, which sends him staggering as he tries to maintain his balance as the pebbles disappear in a mad dash.
After I’ve wiped as much foam as I can off my clothes, I give up and turn to Rocky. “I thought you said you’d be busy until dinner later?” I glance at the traitorous bucket of foam as I speak, and since I don’t think it’ll overflow, decide I’ll deal with it tomorrow.
Carapace shaking, Rocky shuffles around a little. “Thrum did not need Rocky,” he says, evasive. “Said it would be best if I return to my family.”
I eye him for a second, then realize what he means. “You were totally being annoying about the kids’ first day of school, weren’t you?”

Summary
Bad dreams suck. Grace wakes up from a nightmare of being on the Hail Mary, which is utterly impossible, but his throat hurts like he really did have a tube pulled out of it.
Turns out, he wasn't the only one to have that dream. Which was even more impossible than him actually being on a ship that's not even fully built.
aka A movie react fic where everyone sees the film in dreams.
