Two things stuck out to Wu immediately: firstly, Lloyd was filthy. His little sweatshirt, frayed along one sleeve, was blotched and crusted with grime, as though it had never once been washed. Dust coated his flailing fingers, and one palm, he briefly noted, had been marred with a scrape. When had he gotten that? Wu wondered idly. The knees of his pants bore seemingly permanent mud stains, and his hair had become matted and tangled, dull and dark from the oils and dirt that weighed it down.
Secondly, Wu noticed, Lloyd was shaking.
