Doc wonders if he knows Marty came here tonight. If he told Marty to come. The implications of that, the paradox of future events influencing past ones, of timelines happening perpetually, over and over ad infinitum, well, it's staggering. Marty opens his mouth, like he's going to say something else but then he closes it again with a miniscule shake of his head. It's probably for the best, Emmett thinks.
Instead, after a beat Marty says, "Well, this pizza isn't getting any warmer. Let's eat!"

Marty and Doc's six day (or three week) mission is to set up triangulating signal arrays with the hopes of studying the time dilation's effects on communications. The DeLorean awaits them, going about routine business at the edge of the system, far enough away from the black hole to stay in standard time.
Doc is just giddy, positively enchanted by the idea of traveling through time in a new way. Hence the bad jokes.

But they need the money. The DeLorean is so close to being fixed and he can't wait another six months to afford the aluminum tubing they need. So he gambled.

"Impatient, are we?" Dracula whispers and nuzzles Helsing's ear. "Impatient to...receive your bridegroom?" Helsing clamps his eyes shut as he feels the monster's sharp teeth drag down and hover against his carotid artery. The maw opens wide, the moment pregnant with horrible anticipation.
Another minute passes.
"What have you done?" Dracula's voice is different. Confused. Frightened?
In that moment, Van Helsing knows that the ritual has worked.
Dracula takes a step backward, then another. His eyes are wide, wild. Lorrimer cannot help the small smile he now feels on his own countenance.
"Have you made yourself...my Familiar, Doctor?"
"No."
The tall man sneers but now seems less sure of himself. He arches an eyebrow.
"No, Count Dracula. I have made you mine."
