    There had always been an underlying power struggle in the cultivation world, each sect fighting for control. He knew his own was not exempt from it, no matter how much they tried to pretend otherwise. Deep down, everyone wanted to rule, that had always been an unspoken truth but in the last few decades... there had been unrest ever since the Wens had started expanding, encroaching on the neighboring territories, growing in numbers, becoming more outspoken. Wen Ruohan was a strong man with an unequaled level of cultivation and he made it clear what he wanted. A throne over the whole cultivation world. There hadn't been an emperor in their lands since the ages of old, long before the cultivation world had become the cultivation world but he intended to be the first. By the time Wangji had been born, the threat of war had been looming over the sects for years. Still, nearly four decades had passed since then with little more than veiled threats and small squabbles. Until now.

     

    A few months ago, Wen Ruohan had named himself Chief Cultivator, it was as good as a declaration of war.

    Jiang YanLi will admit she is mediocre, but she is not a fool. She knew the contents of the box irrefutably proved Jiang FengMian and Jin GuangShan’s ill-fated, decades long love story - the fact it was buried so deep on Lotus Pier grounds was proof enough.     Lan Wanji was never told the details of his parents' story. Now that he has discovered his own desires, his life's goal is to keep Wei Wuxian from finding out. But life is cruel and truths get revealed at the worst possible times.

    Since I suck at summaries, here are some key features:

    - plus going to war with the Wens
    - plus Wen Qing being totally badass
    - plus Jin family craziness

Relationships he would foster faster. But he was dead, and there would be no third time.

    Turns out the Universe had a horrible sense of humor.

    Original story summary:
    At sixteen Wei Wuxian is—through some strange twist of fate, or a nick in the layer between parallel universes, who knows—out of the blue confronted with that one incense burner dream one night.

    While his curious mind is left unable to stop poking at this new perspective on Lan Wangji, circumstances in the Cloud Recesses begin to change and Wei Wuxian is suddenly presented with life-altering opportunities.

    Maybe Gusu isn’t so bad after all?

    (Or alternatively: The fic where I get to give Wei Wuxian the academic scholarship he deserves while simultaneously getting him hitched early on.)

It’s a bare technicality, since one of Wei Ying’s hands has rucked up his black tank top practically to his collarbone, showing a long expanse of abdomen and one nipple. Sweat beads on his sternum, catching the light like jewels. His other hand is--Lan Zhan feels his eyes widen, as though unable to look away from a train wreck--on his hip, one thumb tugging down the waistband of a pair of red briefs. Wei Ying is biting his lower lip and looking directly into the camera, sultry, his eyes dark and inviting. His erection is obvious, outlined against the red of the briefs and framed carefully with the hand on his hip. Lan Zhan’s brain goes wildly, screamingly blank.

    Or: Lan Zhan accidentally finds his best friend's OnlyFans account and has an ongoing emotional crisis.

    Ah. The Asshole Dog is loose again. Lan Zhan knows that it is not the dog’s fault for being an asshole, but The Asshole Dog is the reason Lan Zhan had a fence put in at a significant personal expense, because the alternative was allowing his garden to be destroyed and for Bunny to be menaced on her leashed outdoor adventures. Unacceptable. The Most Beautiful Man in the World cringes at the barking, scooting further away from the door through a sea of a dozen broken eggs and leaving a yolky trail in his wake.

    “Fuck,” he whimpers, curling into a ball, both hands wrapped around the back of his neck as if to—as if to protect himself, Lan Zhan realizes. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, please—” The Most Beautiful Man in the World begs, voice ragged. He’s definitely hyperventilating now, from what Lan Zhan can tell between the audible sobs. There’s another bark from outside, and The Most Beautiful Man in the World flinches bodily, making a terrified sound that Lan Zhan feels behind his ribs.

    Or: A meet ugly, a dog, and the beginning of something wonderful.
