The harsh click! of a latch snapped her out of her reverie and made her jump in her chair. Cole was leaning over the table to close the window facing the sparring ring. She raised an eyebrow questioningly.
“Some days you don’t like the fighting, even if it's pretend.” He shrugged like he was making a casual assessment of the weather. “The fighting can’t take you back to that night at the castle if the windows shut. It doesn’t mind helping.”
Her eyebrow hiked even higher. “You say that like it’s just that simple.”
“It is.”
Cyrilla Cousland couldn’t help the surprised laugh that bubbled out of her. “Thank you, Cole. I’ve got a lot to learn from you.”
