It started with an innocuous question.
It was during one bright day, when Yuder was visiting the town center. A young boy approached him, clutching a notebook to his chest. Yuder had seen the boy and his friends peeking at him around the corner for some time. It wasn’t strange behavior for the village children; they’d usually run as soon as he met their eyes.
This boy, too, was trembling, but he managed to blurt out a question through sheer determination.
“W-What’s your favorite Pokemon, mister?!”

"Which one?" The green-eyed boy replies. "The land of mages and swordmasters? The land of planes and skyscrapers? I remember both, but I shouldn't."
"I've never been on a plane," the violet-eyed boy says. "I lived in the mountains. Both times."
"Did you ever see the city?" The girl asks. "I always lived in the city. The one with the skyscrapers was louder, and busier, and I had more stuff. The city with the seven walls is still loud, but we don't have as much."
"I went to the city once," the green-eyed boy says. "I had to go to the military to support my family. I live in the south now. Sometimes we visit the seven walls, but we don't have a lot. I think I was planning on joining the military here, too."
"So the two lives..." the violet-eyed boy murmurs. "They're the same, but different."

Dr. Ryland Grace had been teaching molecular biology at the university for three years now, and he’d gotten pretty comfortable with his daily routine. Wake up at six, take his suppressants with a mediocre bowl of cereal, review his lecture notes over his coffee, teach his classes, spend afternoons in the lab or his office working, and go home. Rinse and repeat. It was predictable, safe, and exactly what he needed. He should’ve known it wasn’t meant to last.
