He pauses the second the coffee hits his tongue, blinking down at his mug like he's seeing it for the first time again.
"What? Did I not make it right?"
"No, it-" Graces shakes his head.
Simon is paused awkwardly by the table, one arm half outstretched as if ready to take Grace's mug at any moment and replace it with more perfect coffee somehow.
Grace swallows. "It's perfect."
You really remembered? he doesn't say. It didn't quite hit him earlier and it feels like a sucker punch to the gut now. Simon remembers how he takes his coffee after years of no contact when his last failed situationship a mere six months ago could barely remember that Grace wasn't his first name.

Summary
Ryland Grace is a marine biologist working in an aquarium that is also a rehab center that specializes in injured merfolk. One day, he gets the news that a rare, never before seen and very injured deep-sea dwelling merman is coming to be rehabbed and Grace is going to be front and center with the process. There’s only one problem. While he usually deals with merfolk that are about human sized, this new merman is over 30 feet long.
