While on their first field assignment since Penacony, Aventurine and Ratio are surprised to encounter a vengeful Avgin mercenary. As soon as she speaks, however, a name and face from the past spring instantly to Aventurine's mind — that of his supposedly dead sister, Kadriya. In what proves to be the biggest gamble of his life, he strikes a deal with her to convince her to come back to Pier Point with him, even though he can't be sure of her actual identity. What follows is a tense and chaotic ride that none of them expected, filled with mystery, secrets, distrust… and regret.

Summary
The IPC has drained every ounce of man-power that they can offer to The Golden Sands of Egyhazo to find the remains of Tayzzyronth, but their attempts have proved to be fruitless.
Veritas Ratio was one of the many unlucky scholars that The Intelligentsia Guild sent to the desert to help expedite the process, and he's never disliked anything more than this so called "mission". Surrounded by idiots and those plagued by ignorance and all in the hot sun, it was driving him insane.
That is until a certain messenger dressed up to a stupidly extravagant degree shows up to the desert from the IPC. His idiocy intrigues him, to a certain degree. But what could some little young messenger provide to a barren wasteland of a planet?

Insanely good gossip, though, if nothing else. He just wishes he could have avoided seeing Diamond in swimming trunks.
