After a lifetime of neglect and ostracization, Elphaba is not what you would call 'good at being close to people.' When Galinda notices her new best friend flinches from every touch, she proposes an experiment: exposure therapy, a way to start small and help Elphaba grow more comfortable with herself and others, one touch at a time.
But what started as an exercise in psychology might just prove to be the basis of something more.

Summary
Elphaba Diggs was the verdant princess of Oz, the only child and heir of the Wizard himself. When she arrived at Shiz, she was the talk of the campus. Crowds parted around her, awed by the magic that seemed to radiate from her very pores. Flowers seemed to bloom around her, and the air even smelled sweeter in her presence. People said she was the second coming of the Sages, more powerful even than her father. One day, she would inherit all of Oz and bring the dawn of a new Emerald Age.
One social-climbing Gillikinese girl who aspired to be a sorceress was beneath the Wonderful Witch’s notice. Galinda wouldn’t stand for that. Elphaba was the most powerful woman in Oz, and Galinda was going to be by her side.

Summary
These were the facts anyone who had ever studied the history of Professional Heroes knew: 1) the first person to be registered for a Quirk was a social justice advocate against what today’s society became, 2) roughly 80% of today's population had a Quirk, 3) today's Quirk users were comprised of the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations, and 4) anyone born in the last ten decades or so learned how to dream the first time they laid eyes on a Hero because everybody dreamed of being a hero someday.
Those facts were the foundation of what made for a very compelling story. But they were all just very, very compelling lies that made way for two things to survive: 1) even more lies and 2) the Todoroki family.
An AU where Shouto Todoroki has the power to change the story, but he isn't the one who chose what changed when he was just an idea—a strategy, a counter-measure. He doesn't even understand the changes. All Shouto knows is that he has to be the number one Hero or else everything he's discovered about the future falls on his head and Touya's. So, he doesn't have a choice.

It's been nine years since the Wizard had declared Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West. Eight years since Fiyero and Glinda have become Oz's Most Fantabulicious Bride and Groom. Seven years since she had last spoken to either of them or Nessarose or Boq. Six years since she had last spoken to another human. Five years since digging out a bullet in the shoulder that never truly healed. Four years since the remaining Animals of Oz had lost their voices. Three years since she had last spoken to anyone. Two years since she had freed the last living Animal from Oz. One year since she had last stepped foot into the Emerald Empire hoping to change hearts and minds.
And now the Wonderful Wizard of Oz is dead.
Elphaba Thropp is so very tired. And so very alone.
Or:
A suicidal Elphaba returns to Oz after almost a decade to be executed. Glinda and Fiyero will be damned before they let that happen.
