In one hand she held an Illyrian bow, carved with winding runes for resilience and accuracy.

In the other hand, Feyre gripped a male’s head.

"You're rather blithe for a dead man," Feyre noted.

For a moment, his smile faded. When Feyre blinked, it returned. "Why waste time being morose when I could enjoy the best company Hybern has to offer?"

"Bride theft is against the law," Feyre tried. "It has been for a millennium."

"Darling," Rhys said, "I am the law."

Rhys's jaw flexes. "You're my mate, Feyre."

"And?" The word comes out breathier than she intends. He's hard against her hip, and she can't quite remember why, exactly, she should be repulsed by this capable, clever male. "That's not love."

He snarls, his canines flashing. "That's devotion."

    Summary

I wasn’t sure how to navigate this bigger body, heavy with wings and muscle and balancing on a higher center of gravity than I was accustomed to. Rhys kept part of himself embodied as I oriented myself, supporting his body so I could focus on the task at hand. Pressing into him was like submerging myself in an ocean, easing past centuries of thoughts and memories and bits of personality until I found the place at the base of his skull that combusted every time he heard me mewl.
