“Come on Clark, it isn’t even that scary!”
Clark’s face reminds him of the statue in his mother’s garden, the one over the fountain. The scrunched nose, the distant eyes, the thin lips. Displeasure and acceptance both. He really doesn’t understand what’s wrong.
“We climb higher in the barn.”
“It isn’t the same thing !” Clark denies. “I can’t do it Bruce, I’m not allowed to. It would make Ma sad.”
“You’re such a wuss.” Bruce rolls his eyes and jumps down the tree. Clark pouts, crossing his arms in front of himself. Bruce rolls his eyes harder. Clark never breaks the rules and he never seems happy about it. Anyway, he won’t even stay mad for long, they’re best friends so it’s okay.
“Let’s go see the horses. Tommy is teaching me how to ride.”
Clark smiles at him then. See? What did he say, it’s okay. They can’t stay mad at each other for long because they can’t stay away from each other for long. They are best friends after all.
