“The execution isn’t about Whitebeard,” Koby blurts out before he can talk himself out of it.
He resists the urge to squeeze his eyes shut, but all he gets for his efforts is a neatly raised eyebrow. Not that the skepticism in Helmeppo’s expression is entirely unwarranted – all anyone around them has talked about in the past week has been A War With Whitebeard – but it still makes him squirm. It’s still technically a secret, and he still hasn’t technically told, so he can bite his tongue now and try to fall asleep. But they’re going to fight a war in the morning, and no matter how it ends, Koby doubts that by the time the dust settles this will still matter.
Koby wants it to matter.
“Portgas D. Ace,” Koby forces himself to say, his heart in his throat and someone else’s secret bitter on his tongue, “is Gold Roger’s son.”

Summary
a collection for my mario fics becuase they have a continuity and follow the same rules, namely:
> as of Everything Changes, Mario and Peach and Bowser are married
> the characters all are vaguely immortal and experience time / game releases at the same rate we do
> (Almost) Every Mario Game Is Canon. mostly making this distinction to insist that the mainline Mario games + Mario RPG games + Paper Mario all happened within the same universe to these characters. Paper Jam is fake. Mario Tennis is real. (etc)hopefully one day I'll write lighthearted, lowstakes fic more along the lines of Everything Changes, but otherwise it's just looking like this is a collection of "the Paper Mario series was kind of fucked up, actually" fics
(you don't have to read any one to understand the others; they are collected, and sorted in chronological order, but are all standalones)
oh and if you want to read any of my mario meta (???) you can find that here...... but mostly i just want you to read my Bowser thesis lol,

Bowser's kids have been pestering him for weeks to go on a blind date, even though OBVIOUSLY Peach is the girl for him. Still, when Junior breaks out the puppy dog eyes it's hard to say no.
After Bowser gets stood up by said date, he expects his lunch to be boring and uneventful by himself, but when he spots a familiar mustached face in the restaurant he finds his expectations dashed.
