    Summary

Peter knows Tony doesn’t forget on purpose, and he knows that Tony means well with his concern. But, the man has to deal with the fact Peter isn’t a hero, and is in fact, a vigilante. If all he gets is a broken nose after a long night of patrol, Peter considers himself lucky.
A lot of vigilante things were lost on Tony, such as bad PR. Sure, the Avengers get some bad PR, but never J. Jonah. Jameson style, but then again, Spider-Man always had the best pictures, because Peter Parker gave them in for a bit of extra money.
There was some things you learn when you’re in Peter’s line of business, and that is, how to calm down a rape victim, how to help a lost child who doesn’t want help, who to punch harder than the rest, who are first time thieves, and that sometimes things like “don’t pull the knife out” is a rule best ignored, (unless it was somewhere bad bad).
You know Tony’s too far gone from the vigilante line of work, when it’s Pepper Potts, who tells Tony that a broken nose is the least of Peter’s worries, even though she too freaks out about it.

    Or;

5 times The Avengers (excluding Clint) forgot Peter Parker is a vigilante, and 1 time everyone remembered.

Great story, realistic Peter as a vigilante.

    @@@

Peter scowled, “no, I’m not!” He snapped out with venom, “I’m just the devil that you forgot!” He turned, and slammed his hand down on the table.

The table shook, rattled, and then horrifyingly, the vibranium table split underneath his fist, cracking and falling to the ground in two, from the mere force of Peter’s strength.

Shuri’s heart dropped; there goes her table.

Peter’s hand clenched. If he was in pain he didn’t show it. “I’m not sorry for what I did,” he said, tone blank. “I’d do it again. But, we’re clearly not on the same page. Don’t you get, I’m a vigilante. If it’s to do with Queens, it becomes my responsibility, which switches it from Avengers Business to Vigilante Business, which means I will treat it as such, I will treat it like how it’s meant to be treated, as vigilantism!”

The teenager stood with his back straight, “and until you can accept that, I am done doing Avengers Business.”

Clint looked up and smiled, “hey Pete.”

Peter looked at Clint, eyes hard and annoyed, “what?”

“They know, they just don’t wanna accept it,” Clint explained, tone gentle and smiling slightly.

Peter frowned, and nodded, “I’m going out. Gonna see Double D.” He looked at Fury, and nodded, “and this is me, done.” He turned and walked out, the doors shutting down behind him.

They watched him and frowned. They knew, of course they knew, how could they not? They just hated it, Peter was meant to be the best... but, maybe he was? He wasn’t tied down to SHIELD, nor to the government, he worked outside the law and saved as many people as possible.

It was just difficult to remember, to accept. It was one thing to see the boy in action, yet a whole other thing to see him in his element. It was jarring. It was hard. But... Peter Parker is a vigilante, not a hero. And they knew that.

After all, it was Peter who got the job done. Not them, not the heroes. But Peter Parker, Spider-Man, not a hero, but a vigilante.

Stephie!” Peter clings to Stephen’s leg happily.

“What are you?” Stephen mock-complains. “A spider?”

“Right,” Tony grins. “Come, little spider slash monkey. Let’s decorate Stephen’s room.”

“YES!” Peter exclaims and lets go of Stephen. “I will help. I am a super hero too,” he exclaims.

“Of course.” Tony says earnestly. “Then let’s decorate it superhero-style.”

“Do I want to know what kind of style this is going to be?” Stephen asks skeptically.

Tony smirks and winks at Peter, who burst into giggles. “It’s going to be a surprise,” he teases.

    “A big surprise!” Peter exclaims.

“You are not painting anything in weird colors, are you?” Stephen asks with a frown.

“Don’t worry, Pete will choose the colors. At the moment he likes baby blue and lilac,” Tony retorts with as much seriousness as he can muster. Stephen’s expression is priceless though, so that he bursts into laughter. Stephen raises his eyebrows in what seems to be an admonishing gesture, but he looks way too amused to pull it off.

He pats Peter’s head. “How about you go and find Uncle Rhodey and ask him for help?”

Peter nods eagerly and runs off. Recently he has opened up a lot more, and is less shy around the people close to him.

Stephen grins, and smacks Tony playfully. “What did I get myself into?” he jokes.

Tony chuckles. “I told you,” he teases. “You only get me as the whole package.”

“Didn’t know the package included Peter and your sass.”

“Oh, you didn’t?” Tony pulls up his eyebrows before he chuckles. “Whom are you kidding?”

“Yes,” Stephen smiles. “Whom am I kidding?”

When Peter saves Mr. Stark from getting stabbed by Thanos, he has to deal with the consequences of facing the Mad Titan...alone. OR. Infinity War hurt me and I didn't appreciate it, so I fixed it instead of performing my adult responsibilities. It would mean the world if you read and commented :) T for language and canon-typical violence.

It was for the one he couldn’t save. The one twisted beyond saving.

Peter thought that may have been almost worse.

“We can’t save everyone,” Mr. Stark whispered, holding him tightly, leaving no room for negotiation. “Thanos was too far gone. You couldn’t have saved him. No one could’ve.”

And Peter knew he was right. He knew, but he was still upset for the broken Titan who’d died trying to fix the world the wrong way.

“You were so brave, Peter, and you did so well,” Mr. Stark whispered, holding the back of Peter’s head, his voice gruff with emotion. “I’m so, so proud of you, kid. You saved the world. I know, I know we couldn’t save him from himself, but you saved the world.”

Peter continued to sob, acceptance and relief washing over him. Relief that his family and his friends were safe from the Mad Titan’s insanity, acceptance that Mr. Stark’s words were true.

Mr. Stark held him firmly and securely, never loosening his hold, not even when Peter fell asleep.

That night, Peter dreamed of Thanos on Titan, watching two young girls laugh as they chased each other through the dense green fields, a stunning lake shimmering nearby. Thanos, and Peter, who watched, looked towards the horizon as one.

Thanos smiled as he watched the sun rise.
