Chloe swatted his leg. “I wasn't implying I was going to honeytrap you for your extensive train knowledge.” He seemed to melt slightly at her teasing tone. Her shoulders drew together. “I wanted you to know, I'm sorry about… back then.”
Rudy exhaled with a thin whistle, and she got the impression he was lost somewhere in a thought of his own. “Thank you.”
He paused for a moment. She heard him take a raspy breath, and then he added impulsively, “Chloe… were we ever really friends? I mean did you ever really think of me as a friend back then?”

Louise turned to give him her full attention. “That is not a rule that has been enforced in the last decade.” Her words dripped in venom. And for a moment she thought she may have pushed him over the edge, this hoity toity prince.
But he just smiled wider. “And I shall be the monarch that does.”
Her blood boiled. “See here, your royal highness,” she hissed his title as if it were the most vulgar slur. “I will compete in that competition. Arbitrary rules be damned.”
