Bookmarker's Notes
Very well written, characters good, kinda painful. Taylors so far from canon, fulfills a narrative role so far from it that she doesn't feel like the same person, but this version of her is still great. Very good depiction of teen friendship

Summary
Adora, anxious to get a fresh start after the death of her parents and twin brother in a car accident, moves to the small town of Bright Moon. She’s far from happy about it and just wants to forget about her ongoing complications from the accident, graduate, and get out again.
Catra is just as desperate to get out of Bright Moon herself. Stuck in a house with an emotionally abusive mother and keeping a lot of secrets, Catra knows that the only way she’ll ever feel okay is if she gets the hell out. After a string of awkward encounters, both are perfectly fine with keeping a mutual avoidance policy in place.
But then the first body is found, and Catra and Adora are thrown together in grizzly circumstances where one thing is certain.
Nothing will ever be the same again.

Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.

Catra could never have hoped to just leave. Not at first, but then Adora came back, then Shadow Weaver gave her the chance to prove herself. Finally.

In the distance, she can just make out a black dot. Her breath catches in her throat and she coughs. The skiff. Far away and completely unobtainable, even if she could swim well enough to think about trying to catch it.
Catra takes a deep, measured breath, her claws digging into the warm sand beneath her. Her heart is beating hard against her chest and her pulse is so loud it nearly drowns out the waves. She wants to hide. Wants to find somewhere dark and small and wait for it all to be over.
