Crosshair always had a way of doing this, of getting people to do exactly what he was accusing them of doing. Hunter tightened his hands into fists and closed his eyes again, letting out a breath that was almost a growl as he fought against the instincts that begged for a fight.
His voice was ragged when he mustered a different response. “I don’t want to argue.”
“Then you made a mistake trying to change things.”
Adjusting to a peaceful life on Pabu isn't without its growing pains, and Hunter finds that all he wants is to truly know his youngest brother again. Crosshair, however, isn't as willing and able to make that happen.

Omega hadn’t really thought about it all until now, until she was forced to come to terms with the fact that she had nearly lost Hunter. He had nearly died. He had died, if only for a brief few seconds.
And to think she had no idea until Tech had commed her.
Omega races back to Pabu after Hunter suffers a heart attack, leaving her to wrestle with the inevitability of time passing and her brothers' rapid aging - as well as her own.

She was cut off by her own labored breathing, which only got worse in the midst of her own panic. Hunter held her tighter, lifting her chin in a vain effort to help her breathe easier. It did little to help.
Omega’s voice was half a sob when she found it again. “I can’t breathe, Hunter.”
When Omega falls and gets hurt on a lighthearted outing, Hunter's forced to remember that even their peaceful life on Pabu isn't without its own dangers.

Summary
Standing here now, months after taking down Tantiss and deciding to hang up their armor and weapons for good, Hunter was still struggling to assess whether his fear was justified. If what was meant to be harmless fun could somehow go wrong in the blink of an eye.
But he wanted to be fearless again, even if all he felt was the opposite. He wanted the thrill. He wanted recklessness disguised as fun. He wanted to do something stupid, laugh about it, and somehow make himself the hero in the story.
Hunter wanted to be free, the way he had once felt during the time of his life when he was furthest from it.
When Omega convinces her family to go cliff jumping on Pabu, Hunter does his best to try having fun again, but there's more than fear that's been keeping him on the precipice.

Crosshair’s eyes narrowed. Hunter had always been good at hiding injuries—it was a common problem they faced during the war—and it seemed he had only gotten better since adding Omega to the family. Crosshair wasn’t even sure this was an injury, but something was definitely off. That kind of sound wouldn’t usually make him so… jumpy.
Maybe it was like Crosshair’s tremor, something physical that was connected to trauma he had endured. Maybe it was unhealed grief at the fact a table that should have fit six was only being occupied by four. Crosshair didn’t have a clue.
But he would find out. And he knew exactly how he would go about doing it.
Hunter's hiding something post-Tantiss, and Crosshair's tired of not knowing what it is.
