Before Virgil had turned 8, just old enough for the system to stop trying to give him up for adoption as much, he'd been with Janus and Patton- a cold couple, one that seemed to thrive off of negativity and brutality. It took less than the 3 years he'd been with them to develop severe anxiety and PTSD, which turned into dissociation and daydreaming- the type that left him much fuzzier in the head than most kids. So, when he was given back to the system and distanced himself from everyone, nobody thought twice- until his 8th birthday, when another gay couple adopted him. Right from the start, they were different... it was, well, easier to let his guard down with them. Years passed, and 8 turned to 9, 9 turned to 10, and he'd finally had a chance to live peacefully.
