Oh. Right. Rumi catches her lower lip between her teeth, then takes a deep breath. “Do you remember what you, Zoey, and I all talked about?”
At least Mira doesn’t outright laugh at her, though amusement shines clearly in her eyes, in the small curve of her lips. “Dinner last night, our plans for today, which dinosaur was our favorite growing up,” she starts to list and Rumi groans.
“No, none of that,” she says, trying to keep her voice from a whine. “About, you know. Dating.”

Zoey giggled and nuzzled impossibly closer. Rumi could feel her rub her cheek against the side of her neck—where her scent gland would be—and sniff the area. The action tickled the sensitive skin and sent a pleasant shudder down her spine. In the back of her mind, Rumi vaguely registered how the need to itch the area lessened.
Zoey paused and leaned back to look at Rumi. A curious look crossed her face, and Rumi raised one eyebrow in question.
“You kinda smell different,” Zoey simply stated. There were no teasing undertones in that sentence, just a factual finality.

Rumi had spent her entire life believing that she was a beta. Why wouldn't she considering she never presented as anything else. However, as it turns out, training to be an idol and demon hunter while carrying the responsibility of fixing the Honmoon since she was young can be stress inducing.
When things finally settle down after they create the new Honmoon, Rumi begins to notice subtle changes--her scent, smells, and behaviors. A reluctant visit to the doctor reveals that she's finally presenting as an omega. Rumi has a crisis while Mira and Zoey try not to freak out.

Mira tuts a little when Rumi falls silent with a little whine. Words are failing her right when she needs them the most. “Can I? Can I what? Come on, Ru, you know you have to ask for it. I can’t help you, otherwise. I don’t know what you need.”
Which is patently false. Mira knows exactly what Rumi needs. Her eyes gleam with promise, with encouragement. She just wants Rumi to say it.
It’s never been easy for Rumi to verbalize her needs; she’s never been comfortable putting her wanting to words. But it’s also never been easier than it is now, with Mira’s gaze on her, gentle and patient, for her to whisper, “I need you to choose. Please?”
