    This doesn't impact the journey to Erebor itself but it does complicate interpersonal relationships since:

    A) They are female but currently disguised as male, as has been the case nearly all their life.

    B) Engaged to Fíli through a plot thought to be devious trickery but is much more convoluted and noble.
