Or, Billy talks a lot when he's drunk and doesn't realize that Hopper and Joyce basically made him confess that he gets abused at home or that he ended up at the Chief of Police's house where is his given a safe place to sleep for the night and possibly a place to stay for longer.
Or, Billy gets invited to his first sleepover at Hop's cabin with Jim and Joyce and is overjoyed. They will show him what true love looks like and decide that he is never going back to Cherry Lane again.

Summary
“Get out of the car,” Hopper says, finally, and Billy blows air out hard, breaking open the thin scabbing on his lip again.
He fumbles with the door, climbs out and stands there, his feet hot and sweating inside his sneakers. It’s awful, Hopper is looking at him with something like pity, enough silent sadness to infuriate him, and Billy can’t figure out how to get past this moment - and then. He doesn’t need to, because everything changes.

Ellie watched the events unfold as if they happened in slow motion, with her eyes wide, frozen to the spot and unable to help. She saw Alec’s body suddenly lurch forward, his arms grasping at thin air and flailing almost like a bird’s wings before all six foot something of him crashed violently to the ground.
...A visit to the pub does not quite go to plan for Alec...

Summary
As the car slowed to a stop in front of the movie theater, Steve watched Billy’s smile grow a little bigger. He’d planned a full, elaborate day, but it was Nancy who had talked him down from it. “If I were him, I think I’d still want peace and quiet. Just...a little different, maybe.” She’d said once Steve had gushed about road trips and the state fair. He’d felt dejected at first, until she’d followed up with, “Steve, I think he’d just like to do anything at all with you. Even something small.”

Summary
Joyce Byers was an enigma to Billy Hargrove. He didn’t understand her one damn bit. Why would this mother with her hands already full with two boys of her own, while also parenting a super-powered little girl, wanna take in a stray like him?
the knowing gaze she gave him, made him feel like she knew. That he really didn’t need to explain. The sheer understanding in her stare sent a shiver down his spine and quieted any words that were trying to fall from his lips.

Joyce Byers' love competes against the tallest tsunamis and the strongest tornadoes. She's a mother through and through, blood or not.

Summary
Sitting in a seat that was so soft made his mouth go slack with exhaustion. It was all he could do to keep his eyes open and stare blearily at the smudged lights outside the window as Ellie drove. He asked himself why he even needed to look out on these miserable sights and why he couldn't just turn his mind inward and rest. He'd seen them a thousand times before. You're not a child, Hardy. Stay awake. Sleeping will hold you fast in its claws. Sleeping will destroy you.
Alec, in an attempt to avoid his nightmares, has been keeping himself awake. Ellie, being a mother and his best friend, is not about to let that slide. Featuring the closeness they SHOULD have had in the series. Set post-s3 in the weeks after.

Summary
He preferred drowning to this, honestly. At least drowning was muffled, distanced from the life above, unlike the feeling of rawness, of sterility that came with fluorescent lights and clacking heels and keyboard clicking, the scent of perfume with every person that passed by, the talking and talking and talking and—
“Are you okay?”
He wanted to ram his head into a wall.
“‘M fine,”

Summary
Alec used to be Catholic. He used to believe like his parents did: mass every Sunday, prayers and communion wafers over doctors and medication, and the monthly youth group meetings. He dreaded those meetings, never quite sure why. He dreaded the stares, the whispers; they all knew he was different. They knew he was tainted. They saw his sins even before he did.
Or: Alec inadvertently opens up about his religious trauma to Paul right before Daisy is meant to move in with him.
There are flashbacks, but no present-day Alec sexual assault.

Summary
“I’m fine.” He told her, hoarsely, taking the mug from her hand, almost burning his skin in the process. “Go mind your own business Miller.” It was hard to keep his words coming out straight, but he did his best, as he sank back onto his desk chair.
“What did Chloe have to say about this?”
“She’s asked if I was alright to go in and told her I was fine, which I am,” he emphasised, “so I came in, I’m a grown man for fuck’s sake, I know when I’m not able to come to wor-”
“You came to work when you had a bloody heart attack, Hardy.” Miller of course had to remind him. “Go home, get better, come to work when you don’t look like you’re about to drop dead.”
Despite her description being worryingly accurate to how he felt, he waved it off. “Don’t you have work to do?” He snapped, breathing heavily as he waited for her to leave his office.

Another shock shot through his body. He could feel the tears threatening to leave his eyes.
“Say it Alec”
He looked to the side of the room where the cross hung, a reminder of why this was happening.
“I am broken and need to be fixed, what I desire is wrong. God didn’t send his son to die for someone like me”
He said while another shock shot through his body.“Good, now say it again”
