Summary
For their political crimes, Lightwoods have been cursed that if their first born doesn't get married by their 25th birthday, the whole family will die. Those news come as a shock to Alec who in a drunken night meets Magnus Bane, who happens to want nothing to do with him. Alec soon finds out that Magnus could also benefit from their marriage. And as their tension grows, they start to realize that the curse might be even bigger and more dangerous than they thought.

Everyone had a soulmate, even warlocks. The problem with being a warlock, though, was the fact that immortality made it impossible to know when your soulmate would finally be born. Magnus thought the universe was being cruel on him for making him wait 400 years and counting.
He knew he had a soulmate though, because the moment he turned 16 he had to go through the same ritual as everyone else: making the promise.
