Summary
It’s dark, and Ilya’s not quite sure where he is.
His entire body is numb. His shoes are soaking wet from trudging lazily through the snow. His nose is running, and his lips are chapped.
Selfishly, he wishes Shane would fuss over him now. Pull him close, whisper “I forgive you” even though he shouldn’t, because Ilya would never change, because something inside him- in his family line, in his soul- was broken.
Ilya wondered how long ago it had clicked- when Shane had realized that Ilya wormed his way into this country and tricked the Hollanders into caring for him, then returned the favor by botching their language and leaving a trail of mess in his wake. He still can't help but wonder if that will be part of his punishment- being doomed to miss him in death, too.
or: Ilya’s mostly been able to cope with the fact that he’ll never be able to articulate himself fully in this country- but he’s also never been good at talking about feelings in the first place.
"I'm tired" is the best he's got. It definitely doesn't capture what's going on in his head, and Shane can't read minds.

Chapter 1: Shane wakes up on the same Tuesday over and over again after leaving Rozanov in a rush. Tuesday is his second least favourite day of the week, so he's not really happy about it.
Chapter 2: Ilya notices Shane acts strangely. He just never remembers.

He was counting down the days before he could get on his flight back to Boston, as if there was anything there to greet him on his return. Maybe it wasn’t Boston he was missing. The realization is not welcome.
“Do you think you will stay in Boston?” Shane asks, stroking Ilya’s upper arm. His touch is soft. Ilya wants it endlessly.

Jayce had noticed Viktor had become quieter over the last couple days, stared at the ceiling more often and taken shallow breaths. Jayce had watched as the heart monitor would stop— then come back. Every time it did, Jayce would move to check Viktor’s pulse again. These walls, the window on the wall facing the city of Piltover, Jayce had memorized each minute detail. He knew where Viktor's clothes were, and he knew how Viktor hated the hospital gowns with a burning passion.
Jayce sighed heavily, shifting his chair closer to the bedside. “I hope my 7 minutes will be just us, too.” he breathed out, but Viktor shook his head with a weak chuckle. “no, it won't.” he whispered. his voice had gone raspy and his accent shaky on the words. “you have many more years to fill those 7 minutes, Jayce. I will be a passing memory to you.” Viktor argued, although there was no bite to his tone. but sadness.
