Summary
Macklin was fine, all things considered. (A downright, bold-faced lie.)
The only thing he’d managed to accomplish since the final buzzer sounded was waiting until he was in the safety of the locker room before breaking down. (Also a lie). In reality, he’d been unable to contain his tears standing on the sidelines, head down and glove pointlessly covering his trembling lips.
Because the truth was that he’d been wearing the C this time around, with the hopes of his teammates and his country riding on his shoulders, an insurmountable amount of pressure ready to crush him every time he took a breath. And it certainly didn’t help that the only person who could calm him down right now was across an entire ocean.

Or, the one where Macklin is reeling from the loss at Worlds, and realizes that the only thing he wants is for Will to make everything better.

Grace assumes Will has a new girlfriend because he's always smiling at his phone, but she doesn't know what she's talking about. It's Mack he's talking to and in no way at all does he have a crush on Mack because that would be a sin.

“That’s not good enough, man. Tell me, what would you have done if she was here?”
Mack’s jaw clenched hard. “I don’t know.” He repeated.
“And what if I was actually fucking someone? Here, maybe on the couch? What would you have done?”
“Shut up!” Mack shouted, running his fingers through his hair. “Just shut the fuck up and let me think.”
“Yeah, good luck with that.”
“Dick.”
“Brat.”
They stared at each other for a moment, and Will knew they felt the same thing. Neither of them could put it into words though.
“Fuck you,” Mack bit out through his tight mouth.

Macklin Celebrini has spent years trying to be the kind of omega people can tolerate. It's exhausting.
Meanwhile, Will Smith has never had much trouble being an alpha. He's loud, confident, annoyingly easy to like, and somehow always manages to end up exactly where Mack doesn't want him.
And now they're drafted onto the same team.
As Mack navigates the NHL, and a league that still isn't quite sure what to do with omegas, Will keeps showing up for him.
Mack is pretty sure he can't stand him.
Will is pretty sure that's a lie.

Hen frowns at him. “What do you mean, doesn’t feel as good?”
Buck shrugs. “Well, you know, like, it can kinda hurt sometimes.”
All at once, Eddie, Chim, and Maddie speak, their voices overlapping: “Can you specify it?” “Wait, it hurts?” “Buck, he’s hurting you?”
They’re all sitting forward in their seats now, and Buck scrambles to defuse the situation.
“No! No, I mean, it doesn’t, like, hurt hurt, it’s just, like, ouch! Y’know! Like, normal. Just… uncomfortable. Sometimes.”
