They say you can't outrun the past, but Sonic's been doing pretty well for the past few years. Months after the Zombie Apocalypse began, he did the unthinkable, then went through things he'd rather leave behind. Since then, he's been going through each day, refusing to acknowledge any part of his past.
However, when he unexpectedly runs into people he never thought he'd see again, he faces a difficult choice. He either continues as is, or faces what he's left behind, which is something he'd rather not do. Except, other aspects of the past refuse to leave him alone, and if it grabs him, it won't let go.
