Summary
Kaveh’s talents as the Light of Ksashrewar had attracted attention from the Sages of Akademiya, and upon refusing to help them build a mechanical god to depose their archon, he was given what was essentially a death sentence. Someone saved him, a man who introduced himself as Volans and refused to let him see his face.
But the Sages’ machinations grew like stubborn weed and caught on Volans, and Kaveh found himself trying to save him in any way he could. In between that and trying to save the very archon the Sages were trying to depose, the one question remained: who exactly was Volans?
Very lightly inspired by Eros and Psyche.

"Well, it wouldn't do for either one of us to fall," she says, with great seriousness.

“Alhaitham!” A voice shouted as Neuvillette approached the Grand Sage's office. It echoed throughout the entirety of the House of Daena, and the Iudex could have sworn that some of the lamps started swinging. The scholars and Akademiya staff members accompanying them all started groaning and looking worse for wear, and some were even taking advantage of the end of the visit to quickly leave the vicinity.
Panah, the Grand Sage's assistant, had on a nervous smile as he sighed, having caught on the Iudex's bewildered and confused change of facial expression. “And this concludes the end of our tour before your meeting with Our Grand Sage.”
“Is something wrong with the Grand Sage?” Neuvillette could not help but ask.
Panah closed his eyes, breathing in deeply. “No, it's just that, hum… how do we explain this to foreigners…”
One brave soul spoke up, a Haravatat student. “Grand Sage Alhaitham is having an argument with his roommate. Um, again…”
