Shane didn't hear the rest of Ilya's question. It happened so fast, in the span of a blink. One minute he was staring at his husband and the next he was in a hallway, the momentum of whatever that had moved him causing him to stumble forward. His body collided with the door in front of him, the thud of the impact ringing out into the hallway.
"Ow, fuck, what the fuck?" He groaned, steadying himself. "What the hell was that?"
A lock clicked, the door in front of him swung open.
"Sasha, ya ne khochu..." A voice, so familiar even without the rasp Shane knew it would gain in time that he recognized it instantly, stopped. "Who are you?"
"Oh." Shane gasped, his eyes growing wide. There, in front of him, was his husband. Only it wasn't his Ilya, as in the one he was just talking to, the one he woke up next to every morning. This Ilya was a bit smaller, his curls a bit bigger and more wild, younger. His eyes more guarded than the open, adoring blue Shane was used to now. "Oh my god."

Summary
Shane was an omega, or he was going to be, his test results were clear on that fact. It wasn't technically the end of the world, omegas were technically allowed in the MHL, but there were rules. Rules for safety. Rules like having to be mated. So he needed to suck it up, socialise and find an alpha who was willing to mate an eighteen year old who wanted to play ice hockey, a sport known for it's tendency to land players in hospital with permanent dissabilities.
Enter Ilya Rozanov, an Epa alpha who made the unusualness of Shane's male omega status practically normal by comparison. But they had something in common, a frustrating safety rule barring them both entry to the MHL without a mating bond. Oh my god, I didn't know there were any copies of this left on the internet. For those who don't know, this is like. This is a foundational text of hockey RPF. This is from before hockey RPF was really a thing even. It's from the mid-aughts and wasn't posted to a fanfiction website. Instead, OP dropped this insane RPF manifesto onto a normal ass hockey fan forum (which no longer exists) then deleted their account like two days later. Just handed this to a bunch of jocks and hockey bros and dipped. Legendary shit. Like, I don't think this kid even knew what fanfiction was, the fucking hand of god just compelled him to write about being an MLH player's sex slave and show it to the world. I pray every day that this insane child actually made it to the MLH and got to meet Scott Hunter.
So maybe Shane had a little crush on Scott Hunter in his younger years. So maybe he anonymously posted online about it once. So maybe it had become an internet legend and a running joke in the MLH.
